Bungalow Render Transformation
Failed walls stripped and re-rendered in a smooth modern finish
The Brief
The front of this East Kent bungalow was looking tired. The previous render had failed in places, with sections blown away from the brick behind it, and patching it up was never going to give a lasting result. The owners wanted the whole front taken back and re-rendered in a clean, smooth, modern finish that would sit neatly beneath the existing cladding and freshen up the look of the property.
What We Did
The job ran in these stages:
- Hacked off the old render: The blown and failed render was taken off back to sound brickwork, so the new render would bond to a solid background rather than a failing one.
- Prepared the background: The brickwork was cleaned down and prepared so the new render had a proper key across the whole elevation.
- Set out the beads: Stop beads and corner beads were fixed around the openings and edges, which is what gives a re-render its crisp, straight lines.
- Re-rendered the elevation: The front was rendered in a smooth modern finish, worked up to a clean flat face beneath the existing cladding.
- Refitted the guttering: Once the render had cured, the guttering went back on, finishing the job off properly.
The Result
The whole front of the bungalow looks like a different property. The smooth new render sits crisply beneath the cladding, the edges around the windows and doors are sharp and straight, and because the old render came off back to sound brick, the finish is built to last rather than papering over a problem. A proper transformation for a fraction of the cost of more drastic work.
How the job ran: Strip-off back to brick first, then preparation and beading, the new render, and finally the guttering going back on once the render had cured.
